Sabre Girls Strip Glenview Stars of Undefeated Season

The Sabre Girls 10U team posted a solid performance against the league leading Glenview Stars #3 team at All Seasons to beat the Stars 3-2 and keep them from an undefeated season. Click on Full Story to read more about the game.

Despite the loss of veteran forward, Sophie R.,  The Sabre Girls humbled the #1 ranked NIHL team, the Glenview Stars, Sunday morning at All Seasons Ice Rink.  After a scoreless first period, the Glenview Stars would be the first team to light up the scoreboard at the Red Rink.  Lanie L., scored the first goal of her hat trick, a mere 13 seconds later.  A determined Dani C. did an awesome job of stripping the puck from the Glenview offense.  Lilly R., took several glass shaking wrist shots from the Stars blue line - just missing net.  Macey H. turned in a solid defensive performance in the second, helping the Sabre girls keep the Glenview Stars to just one goal in the middle period.  At one goal apiece going into the third, Lightning Lanie L. raced the black biscuit down to the Glenview Stars' zone just a minute into the third period...goal two of Lanie's hat trick!   Unfortunately, the strong Glenview team answered Lanie's goal just 90 seconds later. Forwards Alyssa A., Michelle K., and Anna C. kept the Stars defense on their toes throughout the last period.  With the score tied at 2 all, Sabre Centers, Ellie H. and Mandi G. held the Sabre Team together during a nail biting third period.  With 5:23 showing on the clock, Lanie L., assisted by Mandi G., would push the Girls to a 3-2 lead and add the final goal to her hat trick.  A desperate Stars team would pull their goalie with two minutes remaining on the clock.  Due to a late game Sabre penalty and an empty Glenview net, the Stars had a 2 man advantage over the tenacious Sabre Girls.  With four seconds remaining on the clock, Susan W., shot out of the penalty box to help bring the Sabre Girls to victory of the Glenview Stars.  Goalie Sarah R., played her best game of the regular season thus far, denying 11 of 13 shots on goal.  Final Score:  Sabre Girls 3 - Glenview Stars 2.
